Kirkella 16A

UK Fisheries has invested significantly in the UK distant water fleet, operating in the northern external waters. The vessel's ice class and sophisticated technology allow it to fish in the waters of Norway, Iceland, and the Faroes, fishing for Britain's favourite species of cod and haddock. Historically, Kirkella supplied around 10% of the fish bought in British fish and chip shops, all of which are certified to be sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council. Until recently, UK Fisheries also owned and operated the Farnella fresh fish trawler.

UK Fisheries has three fully owned subsidiaries; Euronor in France, which operates fresh fish trawlers in the North Sea, Pesquera Ancora in Spain, which operates the freezer trawler Lodairo and Absolutely Genuine in Portugal, which operates the freezer trawler Santa Princesa. These vessels fish in long-distance waters such as the NAFO area and Svalbard.

UK Fisheries also owns Boyd Line Ltd. and Marr Fishing Vessel Management.

The company employs dozens of crew and has an active training programme to bring on the next generation of fishermen.

Jane Sandell is the CEO of UK Fisheries.
